AP Art Update and Art Pick-up

I am super excited to share that we have had a lot of great applications for AP Art for next school year. Thank you to everyone who took the time to send in their applications and pictures.

If you are going by school this week please do not forget to pick up your art. I have organized it by class (8.1, VC1, 6.2, etc.) and it is all in boxes on a table outside of my classroom. If you are not coming back until next year but have art you would like to keep I am happy to let you pick it up when I see you next. Rising 9th graders - if you are not going to be able to get your art please email me so I know what you would like me to pull aside and save for you.

Last Week of Classes

Year Long AP Art Application

I am excited to share that the application process for the AP Art class (Visual Composition 1) is now open to any interested 7th graders. Go here to apply!

Learning Plan Week 5/4-5/7

Monday: Introduction to portrait artists Cindy Sherman and Kehinde Wiley. Read about them here and here. Brainstorm ideas for your artwork and use mind-map to help organize thoughts.

Monday: Introduction to artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. Read about him here and look at his work. Gather materials for your artwork.

Tuesday: Create a face inspired by Arcimboldo. Begin to plan your face by cutting out pictures of food that can be collaged together to create a whole design.

Monday: Introduction to Folk Art. Read this handout. Look at the found art folk art  of Michelle Stitzlein, who creates with recycled materials. Research insects that you would be interested in making a recycled material sculpture of. Do a sketch. Send pic to me.

For 8th Graders Only....

Chalk Your Walk

Thursday: Complete artwork by creating a background.  Optional: Write a short story about the animal that includes the animal’s environment and explains why the colors are bright and bold instead of realistic. Don't forget to send me a pic of your work!

For Fun: Draw a sidewalk message! Connect with your neighbors and friends by leaving them a beautiful picture, positive sidewalk chalk message, a riddle or a joke. It is a chance to make someone smile even though you can't be with them. If you don't have chalk you can make some chalk paint just by mixing corn starch, water, and food coloring together. Find the recipe here.
